Ms. Anderson
My name is Jenny Chien Anderson and I'm the STEM coordinator at Casita Center. This year is my ninth year in teaching where I was fortunate to teach 6 years of 5th grade, 1 year in math lab, and will be starting my 2nd year in the DREAMS (Design,Research, Engineering, Art, Math, and Science) Lab. I graduated from University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 2006 where I majored in International Studies with an emphasis on Sociology and minored in Education Studies. Go Tritons! I founded the eMentoring@UCSD program in college. I also rowed with my teammates on the UCSD Women's Crew team for my last year in college. After earning my Bachelor's, I graduated from UCSD's Education Studies graduate school where I received my teacher's credential and earned my Masters in Education with an emphasis on elementary math.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, as well as my dog, Albert. I love outdoor activities and enjoy eating. Sometimes, I enjoy cooking but for the most part, I take food very seriously and enjoy it thoroughly.
My educational philosophy rests solely on the kids! There is always going to be change in education and I truly believe that we need to adapt accordingly and encourage our digital native students to explore the world. I want to encourage students' curiosities and motivate them to seek resources to extend their learning. I am open to new ideas and love to incorporate various parts of our lives into education. I love exploring education in Makery, Design, STEM, Inquiry-Based learning, and IB-PYP.
I'm looking forward to this upcoming year and making unforgettable memories with the kids!

Mrs. Farmer
I have been a teacher at Casita Center for Science, Math & Technology for over a decade. I starting teaching 3rd grade, went to 5th grade for about 6 years and then back to 3rd. Over the course of my career I have taught grades 1-5. Currently I serve as the IB Coordinator/Magnet Specialist. My duties in this job very from teaching classes to coordinating teacher IB unit planning meetings. I am also on the schoolyard habitat committee, and I am very excited about this restoration project. I hold a bachelor of science degree in business administration, a masters degree in education, and a clear multiple subject credential with CLAD. I have hosted student teachers in my classroom and I was a BTSA teacher for many years.
I am a wife of 38 years, a mother of 3 and grandmother of 4. My hobbies are few; reading, knitting and long walks, although I did just purchase a beach cruiser, so keep your fingers crossed. Oh, and I really like to shop. My favorite quote is; "life is too short to knit with cheap yarn". My favorite book is There Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. My favorite movie is Preacher's Wife, with Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston. My music Genre of choice is both gospel and R&B.
What I believe about education is that "ignorance kills". For me educating children is a matter of life and death. A great deal of what is wrong in the world is born out of ignorance. I have dedicated my life to teaching children. I also, believe all children are gifted. We all have something to offer the world. Teaching is not what I do it is who I am!

Mr. Perez
This is Jackson Perez' fifth year teaching at Casita Center. His first four years at Casita were spent teaching fourth grade, and he is excited to dive into his first year in the role of specialist. He is excited to bring his passion for creativity and cooking to the specialist team. This year, he will connect learning in the garden with math and science in the kitchen lab, creating a Casita's very own farm-to-table program!
This year, Mr. Perez will be working with each grade level to integrate Casita's outdoor education program and kitchen lab into the IB units developed by the teachers. Kindergarten, 1st, 4th and 5th graders will be working in the habitat, garden and kitchen lab, while Mr. Perez will be teaching computer science and kitchen science to 2nd and 3rd grade.
He is very excited to fill in Mrs. Cerelli's position as outdoor education specialist, and bring his own twist, by integrating the culinary arts.

Mrs. Spacher
My name is Mireya Spacher and I am the Language Specialist at Casita. Casita has been my school "home" for the past 11 years and it is a wonderful place to be. I attended Carlsbad High School and moved on to San Diego State where I earned a BA in Liberal Studies, as well as, a BA in Spanish. When I graduated from SDSU, I studied abroad in Spain and had a fantastic time learning about the Spanish Culture. Upon my return, I began the credential program at Cal State San Marcos and graduated in 2006. I have had many opportunities here in Vista Unified. I have been a PE teacher, a YMCA leader, a reading teacher,a long term sub, and of course a 3rd grade teacher! I enjoy teaching and look forward to seeing all my students grow as learners.
I am looking forward to the exciting changes that are happening at Casita and I can't wait to see where this road takes us!
